no matter the weather

February 2016 - melt 3a

March 1, 2016 - snow for nature boy 1

Earlier in the week, the warm sun made the ground bare between patches of tired snow. Crocuses and snowdrops began to poke their heads above ground and the promise of early spring was foolishly tossed aside as we began in earnest to plan the gardens.  Playing the trickster, Spring mocked our hopeful wishes, and two days ago snow fell from the sky, much to the grumbles of most everyone…save for this young boy of mine who prefers outdoors to indoors, no matter the weather.

After months of cold weather, my Romney ram is a big shaggy mound of beautiful locks. He is frisky and playful in the warm sunshine (if it isn’t snowing, that is!) and his crimpy wool bounces as he leaps in the air with happiness.  All the sheep are bouncy fluffballs right now and I could stand at the fence watching them for hours.  Our shearer arrives at the end of the month and Romeo’s fleece is destined to become a sweater for the main ram of our household, my husband.

Since becoming grain-free and low carb a year ago, bread has been a dearly missed food. I tried an egg bread for awhile, but it was too…well, eggy.  I think I lucked out on these Swedish buns which are so tasty, especially warm out of the oven.  And only 3g of carbs a bun in comparison to 20g of carbs in conventional buns.  That means Sunshine’s blood sugars stay relatively steady rather than peaking and plummeting like before.

We had a spontaneous dolly bath party by the cookstove this week…Sunshine and Huckley washed their favourite dolls which were so dirty.  How delightful that faces cleaned up so nicely.  Now there are requests for doll clothing…just the kind of project I feel inspired to tackle right now!

February 2016 - cardboard fort 2

February 2016 - mud season boat 1

No matter the moody weather, as my husband says, “There is no such thing as bad weather, just poorly dressed people.”  And March is here with all its blustery fickleness, so we shall be prepared for whatever the clouds bring from behind the mountains.

Enjoy your weekend, friends.
