We discovered that below our big cherry tree, when the Merry Little Breezes were cooperating, a shower of cherry blossom petals flutter down around you. It is easy to understand why the merry month of May brings out the fairies!
Forrest’s homemade crossbow…and yes, the bow is not cocked in this photo!
Our flock of sheep are full to bursting with babies…and, in fact, over the last few days, there have been a few arrivals. (More on that tomorrow!) In the meantime, lots of fresh green grazing before birthing is a recipe for good lambing. Also, we already need a little mowing and the sheep do a great job of keeping things tidy around here.
Rhubarb season is in full swing and we are harvesting lots for the freezer for jams and jellies and chutneys that will come later in the season. The giant leaves make wonderful swords, shelters, and costumes, too!
Nettle pickings continue to be plentiful and I made a delicious homemade pizza topped with piles of nettles. We declared it the best pizza we have ever eaten!
Sunshine is practicing leading horses with her dog, Cocoa. Such a patient and faithful companion this pup is…and every chance Sunshine gets, she walks Cocoa around like she tries with this Icelandic horse at her riding lessons.
Yes, indeed…a full week. With garden chores including planting and harvesting, all the various lessons the kids do in a week, as well as lamb watch intensifying and then turning into birthing…this mama is ready for a big snooze. But first, two more ewes will lamb in the next few days…
May the force be with you to have a wonderful week!

Ah Jules, I think you are ahead of us with your spring blossoms (and grass, and rhubarb. . .) So much goodness happening at your family farm.
And Haha! The boys say they cannot wait until W has enough hair to wear in Leia buns, because E will not do it for them. . . so nice of Sunshine to oblige! 🙂

Hi Melly, we are ahead of ourselves, too, by nearly 4 weeks! There are lilacs blooming which is usually an early June thing. And yes to the Leia buns…it is the game of choice around here, I suppose it has been for a few years. Sunshine is very good at being the token female in all sorts of games…it is a handy leverage tactic for a sister!

Love that last picture Jules and I can’t wait to hear more about the lambs.
Thank you, Tonya…I hope to have some lamb photos up later today…it is very busy here with more arriving hopefully today. Phewf! This is much more involved than I had anticipated, though I’m loving every minute of it.
