rewind ~ august (part II :: the everyday)

Quiet August mornings as we all wake up into the day…
jasmine tobacco fragrances the evenings right outside our door
Huckley says he is a soldier, though it comes at as “a doldier” …love.
We spent the most of July and August building a hay shed. My husband has built several of these in our neighbourhood for various farms, and so he knew just how big to build ours. The hay arrived on the only stormy day of August ~ of course. And the the first big splatters of long-needed rain began as our friends helped us unload.
We know to be sure to wear long sleeves when unloading the hay, as you never know when there may be a chance for a haybale ride…
We tarped the whole load of 4.5 tonnes until the roof went on in September, and I admit to being very nervous about the rain damaging the precious hay which will feed our small flock of 7 critters (and their babies in the spring). There is a big hay shortage in our end of the country and I know many people selling off livestock as they aren’t able to find hay for feed. We were lucky this year and piggy-backed an order with our friends with horses who live across the dirt road from us. I can understand how a shepherd feels such a sense of relief when the hay is stacked in the shed as cooler nights creep in. It is a very very peaceful feeling. And now my sheep will be content to nibble the winter away.
Under the watchful eye of one of our three dogs…
